NEW YORK (www.littlefeat.com) -
Little Feat drummer and Iowa native Richie Hayward will be officially inducted into the Iowa Rock and Roll
Music Association Hall Of Fame on Sunday,
September 5. The ceremony, which includes 18 inductees, will be held at the Roof Garden in Arnold's Park, Iowa.
Since Little Feat have a show scheduled in Cripple Creek, Colorado on the Day of the ceremony, a pre-induction ceremony was arranged. Hayward was presented his plaque by IRRMA board members Mike Woltz and Doris Willy before the band's set at the Historic Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa. The Surf Ballroom is the site of the last performance by Buddy Holly, Richie Valenz, and the Big Bopper in 1959, hours before their tragic plane crash. "It was a huge surprise and a great honor to be nominated," said Hayward. "I am pleased to be among the Hall Of Fame inductees." Richie's mother, Bea Johnson, and his sister, Linda Porth, as well as other family members attended the ceremony and Little Feat's show.
Mr. Hayward's sister, Linda Porth, will attend the official ceremony to accept his induction on his behalf. "I feel honored that he asked me and I'm nervously excited about accepting his award," said Porth.
Each year, The Iowa Rock and Roll Music Association inducts Iowa musicians, industry people, radio personalities and even venues into their Hall Of Fame, honoring those who had an impact on Rock and Roll in the state of Iowa and brought fame to their hometown state. "Richie's drumming expertise, his overall talents, and his moral character all make him a great representative of the State of Iowa," said John Senn, president of IRRMA.
The 2004 IRRMA Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held at the Roof Garden Pavilion in Arnold's Park, Iowa.
The event begins at 11:30 am CDT with a free collectors show and memorabilia auction, followed by an Inductees Autograph Party from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. The Awards Ceremony begins at 5:00pm (tickets required). The scheduled performances, which begin at 6:00pm, includes IRRMA Hall Of Fame Inductees The Dentairs, Pelican Peace Band, the Fabulous Uniques, Milk And Honey, Stone Soul Picnic, GONN, Bobby Vee, Carrie McDowell, The Fortes, and more.
