RECORD OF THE WEEK HOUSTON - I LIKE THAT: 'I Like That' is the first single from new hip-hop superstar, Houston. The single features Chingy, Nate Dogg and I-20 and is taken from the album 'It's Already Written.' His remake of Ready for the World's classic, "Let Me Love You Down," shows a sharp earnestness and heartfelt regret.
When I first heard the single "
I Like That" on the radio, it was kinda annoying because they played it every half hour. But eventually the song grew on me and then I saw the video on MTV and it became on of my favorites. I bought the single and listened to it alot. It's one of the best R&B tracks for 2004 and if you haven't bought it yet, go buy and join in the greatness!!
HOT SHOT RECORD
JET - COLD HARD BITCH:Cold Hard Bitch" simply rocks harder than anything on Darkness' 'Permission to Land': vocals rawer, riffs bigger, rhythm section tougher, even the chorus is catchier. Maybe that's no great accomplishment, but as poolside soundtrack fodder, this one brings the goods. "Cold Hard B*tch" is a nice track, and it rocks far harder than most bands out there trying to bring back Rock N Roll. Absoloutely, the second hit-single rocks and never gets old (what a party song for the radio managers...)
ENIGMA - BOUM BOUM: Music it is not in the physical sense, but "Boum-Boum" is sensual to the mind - beautiful creation that have so much splendor from Michael Cretu and he makes it very personal for anyone.
"Boum-Boum" is a touch of pure pop although the track steps over the line to be more than a pop song, it lifts you to the point where everything makes more sense – an anthem.
FOUNTAINS OF WAYNE - HEY JULIE: The New York-based indie-pop band, led by Adam Schlesinger and Chris Collingwood, returns with a long-awaited third LP.
The secret to Fountains of Wayne's genius is the ability to infuse personality into a typically personalityless segment of America, making sadness and mundanity both interesting and deceptively fun. The upbeat, acoustic "Hey Julie" is an acoustic campfire ditty, and standout tune - listeners taken aback by the resemblance of 'Hey Julie' to Steely Dan's 'Do it Again' should stay tuned!
LACUNA COIL - SWAMPED: If you want loud but meaningful music, look no further than Lacuna Coil's Comalies. The voice of Ms. Scabbia is top-notch, even ethereal at times, and it's an example and a challenge to those not-quite-goth-enough female vocalists out there.
Unlike other bands blessed with outstanding lead singers, Lacuna Coil doesn't waste THIS young woman's voice on inane, oversimplified or wishy-washy verses (and yes, there ARE such things in the goth scene! Especially with mainstreamers!). "Swamped" has an indian hint to it and it's so different that you are going to love it. The music is fantastic a total change!
NICK CAVE & THE BAD SHEETS - NATURE BOY: This Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds studio album is a double cd set titled "Abattoir Blues/The Lyre Of Orpheus", it will be the thirteenth studio album and the follow up to 2003's "Nocturama". "Abattoir Blues/The Lyre Of Orpheus" was recorded by Nick Launay at Studio Ferber in Paris in Spring 2004 by The Bad Seeds line up of Nick Cave, Mick Harvey, Thomas Wydler, Martyn Casey, Conway Savage, Jim Sclavunos, Warren Ellis and James Johnston and features the London Community Gospell Choir. The "Nature Boy" probably will be the first Nick Cave single that's more memorable for its melody, than its lyrics.
PAPA ROACH - GETTING AWAY WITH MURDER: Papa Roach's third album is a bruising, full on rock album entitled 'Getting Away With Murder'. Recorded over the past year with producer Howard Benson (Hoobastank, P.O.D.) it showcases a huge stylistic leap forward for the boys from Vacaville, CA. Relying on melody, as well as power, and also bringing a new political angle to their lyrics, 'Getting Away With Murder' (first single) could well be the Metal Single of the year.
PETER ANDRE - THE RIGHT WAY: Peter Andre releases his new single 'Love You The Right Way' on 6 September. The brand new video, shot in black & white, features his girlfriend Katie Price (or Jordan, as we know her best). 'Love You The Right Way' is Peter's follow up to the infamous 'Insania'. It's a Motown song and very soulful ballad.
SOUL CONTROL - CHOCOLATE (CHOCO CHOCO): The central European dance scence strikes back: the ADTV (German Dance Teach Federation) already selected this track as the the official 2004 summer dance! The duo of Soul Control from the Berlin based act features six versions of the Euro-dance-pop hit of summer 2004, 'Chocolate' (Radio Edit, Extended Mix, Sexy Dance Mix, Spanish Mix, Instrumental, & Video). Like each summer there is a song which is named the "summer hit" and it has spend 13 weeks on the Official German Singles Chart (last week at No 24).
YELLOWCARD - OCEAN AVENUE: Let's start with the single that has helped this band break into the Top 40 and score a gold certification in the process, the title track (US & Canada). The song's arrangement finds simple rippling chords being played over a simple drumbeat and a lack of bass that rips the underbelly of the song out from under itself. This is followed by a breezy chorus that is delivered with "passion" and lyrics that are about as deep as President Shrub when he doesn't have a script in front of him. Great song, fun to listen to - most singles get really annoying after you listen to them, but not this one!!!
