New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ V Squared Labs) Leading visual arts studio V Squared Labs has teamed up with electronic music dance music group
Krewella (sisters Jahan and Yasmine Yousaf along with Kris "Rain Man" Trindl) creating a new innovative visual technology culminating in a superstructure called THE VOLCANO (https://vimeo.com/74078146). Traveling with the band to over 50 venues across North America, THE VOLCANO is the epic centerpiece to Krewella's GET WET tour which premiered on
September 5th in Austin, Texas.
THE VOLCANO utilizes a new visual technique entitled 'reflection mapping' and stands at a whopping 30ft. x 18ft. V Squared Labs founder Vello Virkhaus and
Amanda Hamilton (Lead Designer) collaborated with fabricator and technical engineer Stefano Novelli to bring the vision of 'reflection mapping' from pencil sketches and creative reference into an architectural reality to form this innovative masterpiece.
"My team at V Squared Labs and I are always pushing the envelope with existing technology to generate new forms of experiential visual art. The Volcano is our next experimental design integrating lighting, reflection mapping and sculptural form. We are very excited to bring the audience along on this amazing musical and visual journey." - Vello Virkhaus
THE VOLCANO is comprised of reflection mapped crystal structures. The crystals are made out of one and two way mirrored acrylic plastic supplied with reflective backing to create an interior reflection mapping effect. Each crystal is also equipped with LED video and/or LED tape inside, creating complex volumetric reflection effects visually morphing the structure from within. This is the first use of 'reflection mapping' technology to date; additionally the massive set is designed to tour with the band, which was no easy feat.
Krewella's GET WET tour will visit over 50 venues between
