In their latest work, due out November 1 digitally and November 5 physically on
Embassy One , Walter Merziger and Arno Kammermeier again reveal their talent for transforming the immense sound available from today's electronic production possibilities into pure, ethereal lightness .
Eve will be available in several formats including vinyl which encompasses the full album along with the album's 12 tracks mixed into one file for enjoyable continuous play . At its core, BOOKA SHADE is nothing less than a deeply personal response to an ongoing process. Merziger and Kammermeier have spent their whole lives absorbing influences, filtering them and transforming them into their own uniquely individual world of sound . On their fifth album they faced the truly existential challenge of maintaining their own sound without repeating themselves. They had to explore new territory without losing their identity so BOOKA SHADE set up house in Manchester, U.K .'s acclaimed EVE Studios , a "residential vintage recording studio" where musicians can live and work with rare, old-school recording equipment around the clock. The sessions were marked by a very rootsy band sound , as well as questions every producer dreams of like: "Should we use the plate reverb in the hall or the bathtub echo?" This was the fertile ground where BOOKA SHADE sketched out most of their new songs. Back in Berlin , they took on the painstaking task of perfecting the details and infusing the album with the light, weightless atmosphere it needed.
That moment of clarity in Manchester , when everything suddenly fell into place, has now been immortalised in Eve and remains true to the principle that has underpinned this duo's work from their first musical experiments right up to today: BOOKA SHADE perform with four hands . That's it. Two hands on the drums and two hands on the keyboards have to do the job for every track in the studio and on stage. The only exception is when they are joined by special guests, this time including such luminaries as Fritz Helder (Azari & III) who lends his vocals to "Love Drug," as well as Groove Armada's Andy Cato blasting his trombone in a vast echo chamber while
Fritz Kalkbrenner heralds the next departure singing the hymnal lines, "We've burned the bridges on our way…" on "Crossing Borders."
BOOKA SHADE 's 2004 debut album Memento set out to get things moving on the small club scene. Not long after, the track "
Body Language" and the subsequent album Movements marked the dawn of an influential renaissance in electronic music . This music simply worked wherever it was played, from Ibiza's discotheques to England's concert halls , and even as a sample template for a hit by no less than will.i.am . Since then, BOOKA SHADE have been spreading this musical message worldwide and reaping the rewards. On their last album back in 2010, they unambiguously demanded More! . They got what they were looking for, and nowadays BOOKA SHADE —also one of the most engaging live acts in electronic music today -regularly perform at major festivals like Coachella in the U.S. and Sziget in Hungary .
