Atlantic catches Cold; Acclaimed rockers join label via Flip deal

NEW YORK (Atlantic Records) - Acclaimed modern rock band Cold has joined Atlantic Records via a new long-term, worldwide agreement with Flip Records. The band is currently preparing to record their first Flip/Atlantic album, slated for release in 2005. Cold's most recent album, the RIAA gold "YEAR OF THE SPIDER," was released in the spring of 2003 and debuted at No 3 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

Although Cold released their first album in 1998, the band's roots actually go back to the mid-1980s, when lead vocalist/guitarist Scooter Ward, drummer Sam McCandless, and bassist Jeremy Marshall first began playing together as high school students in Jacksonville, Florida. They eventually formed the core of the band Grundig, which relocated to Atlanta in 1992.

In 1996, Ward returned to Jacksonville, where he met Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst, a longtime Grundig fan. Durst's support led to the band's signing with Flip Records (Limp Bizkit, Staind). Renamed Cold, the band released their self-titled debut album in 1998, which was followed in 2000 by the RIAA gold "13 WAYS TO BLEED ONSTAGE."

Meanwhile, Cold earned a reputation for brilliant live performances, building a powerful bond with their passionate, rapidly increasing fan base. In addition to their own headlining gigs, they hit the road with the likes of Limp Bizkit, Staind, Weezer, and Marilyn Manson.

With the 2003 release of "THE YEAR OF THE SPIDER," Cold took a dramatic artistic leap forward. Driven by turbulence in his personal life, Scooter Ward delivered his most soul-baring, intimate lyrics to date, while the band crafted an atmospheric sonic mix marked by a newfound melodic power. The album's first single, "Stupid Girl," was a collaboration between Cold and Weezer's Rivers Cuomo.
