New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ WiFi-PR Group) Insatiable power pop and a humorous ethic collide each time Seattle-based The Hoot Hoots pick up their instruments together. They've ridden their eclectically influenced sound to early popularity and fame, and they relish in the quirks that have brought them together and fueled their musical careers.
The Hoot Hoots are a quartet of talent and drive, embodied by brothers Adam Prairie on guitar and lead vocals and Chris Prairie on drums, who began playing instruments together as kids and grew up together musically before forming this
band with two friends from Knox College,
Christina Ellis on keyboard and synths and Geoff Brown on bass.
They are most often compared to two of their chief musical influences, The
Flaming Lips and The Unicorns, as well as The
Shins and The Pixies. They also have drawn influences from groups like The New Pornographers, The Strokes,
LCD Soundsystem and Matt and Kim. From these bands and an array of outside influences, such as video games, movies and books, The Hoot Hoots have crafted a sound that is raw power pop that delicately balances light and bright melodies with driving rhythms you can't help but move and dance to.
Humor and lightheartedness are another inseparable aspect of their sound and band personality. They name the original Nintendo game system and Star Wars as important inspirations in their musical development, for example. Another can be found in music based on Katamari Damacy, which is a Japanese sunshine-filled video game that they use as a vehicle for exploring deeper issues such as whether or not a video game can waste someone's day.
The group has released three recordings since getting together in early 2011. These include
Silly Lecture Series (2011), Appetite for Distraction (2011) and Feel the
Cosmos (2012), all of which were self-released. Each album has progressed exponentially from one effort to the next as this group has come together as a bandand embraced their unique sound more thoroughly and passionately.
The Hoot Hoots' music has already generated great positive feedback from the media. 90.3 KEXP named "Go for a Walk," the lead track off Feel the Cosmos, its Song of the Day in January 2013—a podcast that reaches up to 60,000 downloads on any given show. KEXP has also featured the group twice on their
Music That Matters podcast, once again for "Go for a Walk" and once for the lead track from Appetite for Distraction, "Mr. Ghost."
The Hoot Hoots' track "Jackson" has also been selected as an indie pop feature song on WiFi PR Group's upcoming indie compilation, Indie Anthems Vol. 4, set to be released at SXSW in March 2014.
They've already performed with a few national touring acts, including the Smooth Westerns, Wampire, the Octopus Project and Rubblebucket. They've also played with up-and-coming Seattle locals, Terrible
Buttons and Kithkin.For future shows, The Hoot Hoots will perform at the Crocodile in Seattle on January 3rd, where audience members can get a taste of their wildly energetic shows emblazoned with bright costumes and funny interludes.
