AUSTIN, TX. (Grub Dog/ www.grubdog.com) Event: Steve Earle Hoot Night Date: Saturday, September 25 Time: 8:30 PM Where: Ego's Lounge 501 S. Congress, Austin Austin singer/songwriters Grub Dog Mitchell and James Rider have a mutual admiration for Steve Earle. So Mitchell suggested they organize a hoot, an Austin tradition of musicians getting together to tribute a particular artist or genre of music by covering the songs in their own unique way. They decided that nothing would be more fitting than to make it a benefit for cause closest to Steve Earle's heart, fighting against the death penalty. The $5 cover benefits the Austin Chapter of Amnesty International for its anti death penalty works, including the upcoming march scheduled for October 24. Among the great Austin bands doing Steve Earle covers will be Grub Dog and the Modestos (www.grubdog.com), Crawling with Kings (www.crawlingwithkings.com), James Rider and the 420 Turnaround (www.420turnaround.com), Nakia (www.nakia.net) and Eric Blakely (www.ericblakely.com). Plus surprise guests. Steve Earle's new album, entitled "The Revolution Starts... Now" debuted in August at number 89 on the Billboard Top 200 album chart. Produced by the twangtrust (Steve Earle and Ray Kennedy), the album "will be viewed as the essential political statement of 2004" according to Billboard. This evening of Austin bands covering Steve Earle songs (including several from the new CD) will benefit the local chapter of Amnesty International USA, specifically for their efforts agains the death penalty, known as Steve Earle's most supported cause. Oct. 22-24, 2004 is Amnesty International USA's National Weekend of Faith in Action on the Death Penalty (NWFA). The local chapter is taking part in organizing a march during that time. Information will be available at the Steve Earle Hoot. CONTACT: Mo Stoycoff (event organizer) 587-8495 Grub Dog Mitchell (for interviews) 350-9205 www.grubdog.com
