The artist, who has since relocated to Los Angeles, CA, originally learned music from his father, a respected jazz musician who taught him piano while his older brother instructed him in rap. Detroit underground in his own right, and it was this early success that led him to move to the West Coast with his father in tow.

He names as main artistic musical influences the likes of legends such as Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles, Dr.Dre, Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G, Lauryn Hill, R. Kelly, and Michael Jackson.
