NEW YORK (Outmusic Awards Official Website) - Outmusic is proud to announce the 2004 Outmusic Awards (OMAs) celebrating excellence in LGBT recording, songwriting, and cultural activism. The OMA awards program will culminate at 3 pm Sunday afternoon, June 13, at NYC?s Knitting Factory - hosted by legendary British rocker Tom Robinson - when OMA winners will be announced, selected nominees will perform, and the Outmusic Heritage Award will be presented to transgendered punk-rock diva Jayne County.
In addition, the 2004 OMA for Outstanding Support will be presented to music journalist Larry Flick, and Special Recognition OMAs will honor women's music pioneer Maxine Feldman and LGBT Christian Music activist Marsha Stevens.
More than 100 artists submitted over 500 songs to this year?s OMAs, with entrants hailing from 30 US States, Canada, Australia, and Holland. Veteran performers as well as debut artists working in a wide range of genres including jazz, rock, folk, country, classical, spoken word, R & B, synth-pop, and hip-hop submitted to 12 categories including Outstanding New Recording, Outstanding Producer, Outstanding Songwritter, Out Song, and Outmusician Of The Year.
Nominees have been chosen in a combination of judging by LGBT industry pros and members? choice ballots. Selected nominees will perform live at the OMAs on June 13, as well as at a special pre-OMA concert at Fez on Saturday evening June 12.
Outmusic is a world-wide network active for the past 14 years supporting the work of LGBT musicians through open mics, showcases, seminars, CD samplers, music festivals, and the annual Outmusic Awards program. More information can be found at www.Outmusic.com
Also, the singer-songwriter Allison Tartalia has been named a presenter for the Fourth Annual Outmusic Awards (OMAs), Outmusic announced this week. Tartalia will present the OMA for Outstanding New Recording – Female at the June 13 ceremony at New York's Knitting Factory. Nominees in that category are Namoli Bennett, Catie Curtis, KJ Denhert, Janis Ian, and Pamela Means. This will mark Tartalia's first appearance as an OMA presenter.
A recipient of last year's OMA for outstanding debut recording – female, Tartalia has become a familiar face on the independent and LGBT music scenes. Her debut album Ready shared the top honors last year with Tarey Wolf's "Magnificent Obsession." In addition to presenting the award at the ceremony, Tartalia will perform one of her new tunes at the nominee showcase the night before, to be held June 12th at Fez.
Tartalia is set to release a CD-single with two new dance versions of her song "Advent Of You," remixed by fellow Outmusic artists *V*I*R*G*O* and Aaron Carl.
