LONDON, UK (Top 40 Charts) - Young songwriters penning lyrics for the likes of Groove Armada, Ian Brown and So Solid Crew are to be honoured at a special awards night.

The British Academy of Songwriters and Composers is to present its third set of Chart Newcomer Awards aimed at highlighting the work of young writers whose songs have entered the top 20 for the first time.
Among those attending the London awards on Monday will be Irish teen sensation Samantha Mumba who will pick up a gong for her part in co-writing her hit Baby Come on Over.

The Universal Chart Newcomers Awards are among the first to recognise the impact of urban music on the UK charts in 2001 with major R'n'B, garage and house acts receiving awards.

Other songwriters to be honoured include members of garage collective So Solid Crew for their number one smash 21 Seconds and the writers of Kosheen's dance anthem I'll Hide You - Sian Evans, Darren Beale and Mark Morrison.

Presenters at the ceremony, to be held at London's Landmark Hotel, include Spandau Ballet's Tony Hadley and Katrina Leskanitch of Katrina and the Waves. Recipients so far in 2001 include writers for the likes of Hear'Say, Gorillaz, Dido and Emma Bunton.

The British Academy of Composers and Songwriters is the largest composer/songwriter membership organisation in the world, representing the interests of more than 3,000 UK music writers.

Among the awards it organises are the prestigious Ivor Novello, most recently bestowed upon Craig David.
