NEW YORK, NY (MTV) - MTV: Music Television announced today that Fergie and My Chemical Romance will perform during the "2006 MTV Video Music Awards" pre-show "Red Carpet On The Rock" on Thursday, August 31st at 6:30pm-8:00 pm. (live on the east coast, tape-delayed on the west coast). MTV News' Kurt Loder, John Norris, SuChin Pak, Sway Calloway, and Gideon Yago provide live coverage of one of the biggest nights in television: MTV's 23rd annual Video Music Awards live from Radio City Music Hall.

Fergie will open "Red Carpet on the Rock" with a performance of her blazing hot single, "London Bridge," which has been burning up the charts since its release. "London Bridge" is currently at No 1 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Pop 100 charts for the third week in a row and is the first single from her upcoming album The Dutchess, in stores September 19th.

This year's "Red Carpet on the Rock" will be all about its explosive live performances. Viewers will be treated to an appearance by acclaimed rock combo My Chemical Romance, who will showcase the world premiere of "Welcome to the Black Parade"-the first single from their highly anticipated October 24th album, The Black Parade.

"Red Carpet On The Rock" will also feature live music by Susan Cagle an artist who scored a major record deal when she was discovered playing on subway platforms around New York City. She was previously featured in the MTV News series "You Hear It First."

MTV News is rolling out the red carpet at this year's star-studded event, with a glimpse into all the pre-show action, including:
- "Instant Fashion Profile" with Cassie. SuChin Pak will dissect Cassie's outfit, as the audience views photos of her getting ready from earlier in the day.
- "Red Carpet Rewinds" is a chance for viewers to see what celebrities looked like when they walked the MTV Video Music Award's red carpet in previous years.
- Throughout the show there will be video taped appearances by artists such as Madonna, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beyonce and Christina Aguilera.

As always, the MTV News exclusive post-show coverage, immediately following the "2006 MTV Video Music Awards," will include interviews with the night's big winners, plus celebrity guests, reactions to the show, favorite VMA moments, and all the latest backstage updates.

The "2006 MTV Video Music Awards" will be hosted by Jack Black and will include performances by Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, Panic! At the Disco, T.I., The Killers, OK Go, Ludacris with Pharrell, The All-American Rejects, The Raconteurs, and Justin Timberlake, and appearances by some of the biggest names from the worlds of music, movies and television including Axl Rose, Lindsay Lohan, Kanye West, Paris Hilton, Diddy, LL Cool J, Snoop Dogg, Pussycat Dolls, 50 Cent, Jennifer Lopez, Jessica Simpson, Chris Brown, Fall Out Boy, Rihanna, Jared Leto of 30 Seconds To Mars, Busta Rhymes, Shaun White, Ne-Yo, Missy Elliott, Cast of Jackass, Amy Lee of Evanescence, Lil Jon, and Nick Lachey.

The 2006 VMAs will be a multi-platform, multi-screen experience. For the first time ever in awards show history, MTV will expose fans to the insanity on and off the stage. While the VMAs are airing live on MTV, Overdrive, the network's broadband channel, will air "VMA Live: Backstage Uncensored", an unprecedented live view of the ALL the action behind the scenes and backstage viewers have never gotten to see. In addition to the television and broadband experiences, MTV Mobile on all wireless carriers will also offer updates and recaps of the VMAs within minutes. Also, prior to the show, viewers will have access to all nominated videos on MTV Overdrive (https://www.vma.mtv.com).
