Michael Franti & Spearhead Nominated For First Ever NAACP Image Award
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Capitol Records) Michael Franti & Spearhead have been nominated for an NAACP Image Award for Best World Music Album. This marks the first time that Franti has ever been nominated for an NAACP Award. The 42nd Annual NAACP Image Awards air Friday, March 4th on Fox at 8pm ET.

"I'm thrilled to receive this nomination," said Franti. "My music has always been about inspiring positive change and it is an honor to be recognized by an organization whose work has affected the lives of millions of people for so many generations!"

The nominations come on the heels of a very successful year for Franti & Spearhead. The Sound of Sunshinemarked the highest chart debut of Franti's career on the Billboard Top 200 chart surpassing the debut of 2008's All Rebel Rockers. Both singles from the new CD, the title track "The Sound of Sunshine" and "Hey Hey Hey" have had success on the Billboard Charts - "Sunshine", a Billboard AAA No 1, Franti's first, and "Hey, Hey, Hey" which reached No 5.

In addition, Franti has had widespread success touring with John Mayer, The Counting Crows and many others, filling Golden Gate Park's Speedway Meadow to near capacity this past year at his annual Power to the Peaceful Festival with over 80,000 people. He's made appearances on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Late Night with David Letterman and Lopez Tonight amongst others. CBS Evening News also recently featured Franti and his work with international shoe charity, Soles 4 Souls. Franti is currently filming the video for his next single "I'll Be Waiting" set for release later this month.

The NAACP Image Awards is the nation's premier multi-cultural awards show celebrating the outstanding achievements and performances of people of color in the arts (television, recording, literature, motion picture and writing & directing), as well as those individuals or groups who promote social justice through their creative endeavors.
