New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The YouTube Music Awards are returning on March 23rd with a brand new format. This year, they are honoring 50 artists for their contributions to YouTube over the past year. They're calling them the "50 Artists to Watch on YouTube".
YouTube is all about the idea that music is more than just a song or a video - it's an experience. Through views, shares, likes, and more, fans helped YouTube choose the honorees without even knowing. The 50 artists chosen for the awards have shown the biggest growth in terms of views and engagement over the last six months. YouTube announced the winners - including alt-J, Charli XCX, Ed Sheeran, and Hunter Hayes - on Monday morning with the following video:
So, what can fans expect at this year's event? First, throw out whatever vision you have of a "typical" awards show. This year, YouTube is celebrating the event the best way they know how: with music videos! 15 of the 50 honorees will be premiering new videos specifically for this event.
