Tim McGraw has his first leading role in Twentieth Century Fox's all-audience film Flicka, directed by Michael Mayer, arriving in theaters October 20. The movie's signature song and McGraw's current single, 'My
Little Girl,' appears on the film's soundtrack, Flicka, due in stores October 17. McGraw co-wrote the song with Nashville-based songwriter Tom
Douglas especially for the movie.
Fresh off a three-day press junket in Los Angeles to promote the film, McGraw will appear on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on Monday, October 16. He will talk to Jay about his starring role in Flicka, as well as to perform 'My Little Girl' with his band. The following day, McGraw will receive a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, followed by the Los Angeles premiere of Flicka on October 18. That same day, Flicka will screen at the Hollywood Film Festival. McGraw then flies to New York City for interview appearances October 20 on both Today and Live with Regis & Kelly.
On October 15 fans can watch as ABC's Extreme Makeover Home Edition stopped in on McGraw during his record breaking tour, Soul2Soul II, this past summer in Phoenix, AZ. The show's recipient family was treated to the concert as a surprise, and were able to meet McGraw in person.
The Flicka screenplay was written by Mark Rosenthal & Lawrence Konner based upon Mary O'Hara's novel My Friend Flicka. In the film 16-year-old Kat y McLaughlin, played by Alison Lohman, dreams of fulfilling her family legacy by working on her father's ranch in Wyoming . But Kat y's father (McGraw) wants more for her, insisting that Kat y go to college. Kat y finds a wild mustang, which she names Flicka, and sets out to make her a riding horse. But Flicka and Kat y are more alike than she could have imagined. Like Kat y, Flicka has a disdain for authority and is not about to give up her freedom without a fight. Maria Bello and Ryan Kwanten also star.
