New York, NY (Top40 Charts) XXXTentacion's second studio album, ?, has edged out Metallica's Hardwired… To Self-Destruct to earn the 20-year-old rapper his first No 1 album on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The 20-year-old rapper sold 131,000 equivalent album units (20,000 traditional) in his first week. Streaming played a major role, with 106,000 SEA units, which equates to 159.4 million on-demand audio streams of tracks from the album during opening week, according to Billboard.
His previous album, 2017's 17, debuted and peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 with 87,000 units (18,000 traditional).
X celebrated his latest chart achievement and promised even more music. "My art is about to get infinitely better," he wrote on Instagram Stories. "You were warned."
XXXTentacion's success comes despite legal woes. Recently, a judge took him off house arrest and allowed him to tour while he awaits trial for aggravated battery of a pregnant woman, domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment, and witness-tampering.
