SEATTLE, WA (MixMeister) - Citing frustration with the lack of correct BPM (beats per minute) information in today's digital music files, MixMeister Technology today announced the release of a free product to fix incorrect or incomplete tempo information within MP3 files.

Accurate BPM counts are essential when selecting songs to mix together properly, or when playing songs to achieve a certain tempo on a dance floor or in a fitness class. But programs which copy songs from CDs in digital format don't capture BPM information. Similarly, songs available from popular download services also lack BPM data.
"Most of the songs out there include no BPM information whatsoever, and those that do are often wildly inaccurate," said Dave Sampson, MixMeister's marketing director. "Until now, software tools available to count beats per minute typically required the user to manually bang the spacebar repeatedly in sync with the music, resulting in inaccurate counts at best. And who wants to bang on their keyboard like that for every song in their collection?"

Even songs that are properly tagged often don't contain the necessary level of precision. For example, the difference between having a song marked as "120.45 BPM" vs. simply "120BPM" can be very important to top DJs and mix producers,

The new product, MixMeister BPM Analyzer, can calculate very precise BPM counts (accurate to within 1/100th of a BPM) for any song in WAV, MP3 and WMA formats and display the results on-screen. It also updates the tag information embedded in digital music files. BPM Analyzer is adapted from the company's award-winning MixMeister Pro line of music mixing software, which is used by working DJs and mix producers around the world.

MixMeister BPM Analyzer runs under Windows 98 (Second Edition)/Me/2000/XP, and is free to use and distribute for noncommercial purposes. Users can download a copy at no charge from MixMeister Technology's website at www.mixmeister.com.
