Los Angeles, CA (Top40 Charts/ Cinemedia Promotions) - Lakeshore Records will release The Tillman Story- Original Motion Picture Soundtrack available digitally on September 28th and in stores on October 26, 2010. Philip Sheppard (In The Shadow of the Moon, Henry Mind of a Tyrant).

When Pat Tillman gave up his professional football career to join the Army Rangers in 2002, he became an instant symbol of patriotic fervor and unflinching duty. But the truth about Pat Tillman is far more complex, and ultimately far more heroic, than the caricature. And when the government tried to turn his death into propaganda, they took on the wrong family. From her home in Northern California, Pat's mother, Dannie Tillman, led the family's crusade to reveal the truth beneath the mythology of their son's life and death. The Tillman Story resounds with emotion and insight, and goes beyond an indictment of the government to touch on themes as timeless as the notion of heroism itself.

Composer Sheppard, who dedicated the soundtrack album to Pat's mother, Mary 'Dannie' Tillman describes, 'In scoring the film I didn't want to apply a heroic sheen to the seductive images of sport and war, as this would only be adding to the myths that this film so eloquently deconstructs.'

He spent many hours speaking with director Amir Bar-Lev discussing the boundaries of writing the score. 'In writing documentary music I believe it is the composer's job to lead the viewer to a place where they can think, but not to tell them what to feel, so in a sense the music has to act as a clean slate, a tabula rasa,' said Sheppard. 'This is essential in a story where the original facts of the matter have been distorted and re-imagined in the first place.'

Philip Sheppard is a composer, cellist, and a pioneer of the electric cello. A professor at the Royal Academy of Music, Sheppard has appeared as an improvising soloist on the soundtracks of Harry Potter: The Goblet of Fire, Hotel Rwanda, and The Virgin Queen. His recent films include In the Shadow of the Moon (which won numerous awards including the World Documentary Prize at Sundance), Henry Mind of a Tyrant for David Starkey's landmark C4 series, and Juliette Binoche Sketches for a Portrait. His HBO feature Sergio was shortlisted for the Oscars.

Sheppard has recently completed the soundtrack to the PBS flagship series God in America to be broadcast in October 2010, as well as the score to National Geographic's groundbreaking feature Inside the Milky Way. He was commissioned to compose and produce the music for the London 2012 Handover sequence at the 2008 Beijing Olympics Closing Ceremony featuring Jimmy Page and Leona Lewis. This included devising a new Buckingham Palace-approved arrangement of the UK National Anthem.

The Weinstein Company presents The Tillman Story, currently in theaters. The Tillman Story - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack from Lakeshore Records will be available digitally on September 28th and in stores on October 26, 2010.
