NEW YORK (Virgin Entertainment press release) - Graffiti-filled alleys are filled with the beats of Grand Master Flash & The Furious Five. B-Boys and B-Girls are on the corner poppin' and lockin'.
All the while early MCs and graffiti artists are taking a new art form to create a new culture - Hip Hop.

Now, Virgin Megastore is pleased to celebrate the legacy of Hip Hop through an event lauding all the aspects Hip Hop culture; from its heroes to its outlaws. Reaching deep into the street connection, Virgin will be hosting a number of live events at North American Virgin Megastores. From graffiti contests in San Francisco, to break-dancing competitions in New York, and turntablism demonstrations with Sony recording artists, X-ecutioners. Featuring a massive selection of CDs, DVDs, books, and streetwear, Virgin is taking direct aim at delivering the goods to the true Hip Hop fan.
"It's important that we not only sell the product, but we represent the culture. From day one, this sale has been about the roots of Hip Hop: MCs, B-boys, Graffiti Artists, and DJs," states Carlos Adams, urban product manager, Virgin Entertainment Group, North America.

Live prerformances nationwide:
Legendary turntablists, X-ecutioners, will kick off Virgin's Hip Hop campaign when they remind music fans what DJ scratching is all about as they mix and scratch at Virgin Megastore Chicago on June 12th at 4pm, Virgin Megastore San Francisco on June 24th at 6pm and Virgin Megastore Phoenix on June 30th at 7pm.

White Boy, Chicago's very own new hip hop force to be reckoned with, will keep the momentum going when he judges an MC Battle at the Virgin Megastore Chicago on June 25th. The Battle will be followed by a lyrical fire and venom performance and signing by White Boy. Chris "White Boy" Riley released his debut album "No Grey Area" May 18th, featuring the hit single You Know with Kayne West.

The Ontario Mills, California Virgin Megastore will host a DJ battle on July 2nd. Radio station Wild 96 is hosting an open casting call for all DJ demos and the contest will be judged by Wild 96's very own DJs as well as Kool Mo Dee who will be on hand to judge and promote his new book "There's a God on the MIC." The winner of the DJ battle will win a guest spot on Wild 96.

In New York City at Virgin Megastore, Times Square Jadakiss will be on hand to sign their latest release on June 22nd at 6 p.m. Then UMVD will host a Hip Hop Discussion Panel Group on June 24th.
Virgin Megastore, Union Square will host a Hip Hop Poetry Night on July 8th at 7 p.m. and will host several book signings from Hip Hop authors including; Heru Ptah, Rob Marriott & Sonya Magett, Roger Gastman and Ernie Paniccioli. The campaign will wrap up with Definitive Juxx Records sponsoring Indie Hip Hop Week July 5th - July 10th.

Virgin Megastore, Boston will host an Urban Hip Hop Dance Contest and party on June 19th. The Beastie Boys will rejuvenate old and new Hip Hop fans with Virgin-hosted Beastie Boys New Release parties at Virgin Megastores in Miami, Orlando, New Orleans and at the Virgin Megastore in Union Square.

Virgin Megastores nationwide will offer deep discounts on CDs that span the Hip Hop experience: Grand Master Flash, Eric B. & Rakim, De La Soul, Gang Starr as well as the likes of 2 Pac, Beastie Boys, Dilated Peoples, Slum Village, and Kanye West are featured; as are DVDs that capture the Hip Hop spirit like documentaries, Style Wars and The Freshest Kids, as well as mainstream theatricals such as Juice, Krush Groove, and Eminem's 8 Mile.
