SANTA MONICA, CA. (Top40 Charts/ GRAMMY Foundation) - The GRAMMY Foundation today announced the schedule for its 2008 GRAMMY Career Day events, a national program presented by the Gibson Foundation under the GRAMMY Foundation's GRAMMY in the Schools banner that brings top music industry professionals together with high school students to present an insider's perspective on working in the music and recording industries. This extraordinary program, now in its 21st year, kicked off on Nov. 13, 2007 in Nashville, Tenn., and it continues throughout the school year with events in 12 cities across the United States, including Atlanta; Austin; Texas; Los Angeles; Miami; Memphis, Tenn.; New York; Philadelphia; Portland, Ore.; Seattle; San Francisco; St. Paul, Minn. and Washington, D.C. GRAMMY Career Day is presented by Gibson Foundation and is free of charge.
"GRAMMY Career Day is at the core of our GRAMMY in the Schools music education programs," said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy and president of the GRAMMY Foundation. "For more than 20 years, GRAMMY Career Day has provided students with an immersive setting in which they can interact directly with a talented group of music industry professionals and gain meaningful insights into the broad range of career opportunities in the music industry."
GRAMMY Career Day begins with a panel comprising recording and music industry talents interacting with students in a dynamic "talk show" format. Following the panel discussion, students attend one of numerous interactive workshops offered on topics such as songwriting, engineering, production, instrumental techniques, marketing and public relations, music video production and new media careers. Again this year, GRAMMY Career Day will offer a special workshop in graphic design and a recording package design contest. The contest, offered in select Chapter cities across the United States, will determine a winner whose design will be featured on grammyintheschools.com and on the CD package of the 2008 Gibson/Baldwin GRAMMY Jazz Ensembles.
"Gibson Guitar and Baldwin Piano continue to be significant supporters of music education and advocates for a lifelong appreciation of music," said Henry Juszkiewicz, Chairman and CEO of Gibson Guitar and Baldwin Piano. "The GRAMMY Career Day program brings our commitment to life with events across the country that allow young people to increase their awareness about the range of career options in the music industry."

The Foundation accomplishes this mission through programs and activities that engage the music industry and cultural community as well as the general public. The Foundation works in partnership year-round with The Recording Academy to bring national attention to important issues such as the value and impact of music and arts education and the urgency of preserving our rich cultural heritage.
