New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Amirah Ali Official Website) - Growing up in Kuala Lumpur, the densely populated capital city of Malaysia, Amirah Ali was constantly exposed to the juxtapositions of different cultures and different viewpoints. In this fascinating city several languages are commonly spoken, many religions practiced, and timeless traditions stand side by side with modern styles and values. Traditional music is played on instruments like the tanbura, the erhu, the gamelan and the kompang, unheard of in Western countries. It is this exposure to diversity that framed who Amirah Ali is today, both as an artist and as a human being, and led to the music she calls World Pop.

She is currently recording a World Pop Album featuring her self-written hit song "Alone Again". The album will include "Tell Me", winner of the 2008 Best Pop award at the Signature Songwriting Competition, and "Katakanlah", World Music finalist for the 2010 John Lennon Songwriting Competition. Her debut single "Katakanlah", and a Club Remix version by Anithesis, were released earlier this year and have made waves in the press, media, and blogs in Malaysia. The song was featured in the 30,000 Confi-dance Compilation CD, Vol. 1, and is distributed at Virgin Megastores across the Middle East.

Amirah's debut single, "Katakanlah," delves lyrically into difficult and heartfelt topics. It references the desecration of houses of worship within Malaysia, and was featured on local news after the strong following it gained on YouTube . "Katakanlah" captivates the listener through a blend of beautiful vocals and world instrumentation, with the tanbura, serving, and tabla infused with modern drums and electronic synths. She hopes that her music will show how passionately she believes in freedom, equality, harmony, and love regardless of race, religion, gender, or sex. Ultimately, Amirah wants to know "What makes us who we are? Is it our cultural and religious make up, or our actions, intentions and intelligence?"

Amirah has recently released an Aidilfitri EP entitled "Syawal: Koleksi Lagu Aidilfitri", which sold over 7,000 copies in just 3 weeks. The EP combines traditional Malay, Indian and Chinese music with Pop, and contains her songs "Syawal", "Joget Lebaran", "Dondang Raya" and "Malaysia". With this combination, Amirah reaches out with unique music to convey what she believes to be the ultimate goal of pop music - to bring people together.

Amirah's music is available at Cdbaby, iTunes, Amazon, at her website, and in Malaysia at all major music stores and Mydin outlets. For more information, please visit www.amirahali.com

"Amirah has written a great song with emotion and gravity. She is an amazing vocalist with important things to say - a rarity these days" - Customer Review, iTunes
