New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The video for Avicii's The Nights, the first official video and second track to be released from the sessions for his upcoming STORIES, is available now on Yahoo! The video for The Nights was produced and directed by and stars filmmaker Rory Kramer, who created an exuberant action-packed recollection of his own life, featuring him on rollercoasters, surfing, snowboarding, skateboarding, balloon flying, etc. - living a life to be remembered. About the video,
Avicii (aka Tim Bergling says), "The video for 'The Nights' is awesome…it is EXACTLY what I feel when I play the song live and it is the perfect representation of the lyrics. It is so much fun."
The Nights, written by Bergling, Nicholas "RAS" Furlong, Ash Pournouri, Jordan Suecof, Gabriel Benjiman, John Feldmann and produced by
Avicii and Pournouri, had a huge debut this week, opening at No. 12 on Billboard's Hot Dance/Electronic Songs and entering the Dance/Electronic
Digital Songs at No. 7. The Nights also netted 1 million U.S. streams (with 76 percent from Spotify) and debuts at No. 17 on Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs. The Nights is now bundled with The Days and billed as The Days/Nights - EP. It includes the original version and a remix of each track, one from Henrik B and the other from Felix Jaehn.
Hit maker Furlong (5 Seconds to Summer, The Wanted, Steve Aoki) conceived of The Nights as as a "pirate-y fight song" while in Ireland at a bar slugging back beers. He wanted to write a song about his father who had always encouraged him to pursue his creative dream and "live a life I will remember." With himself on lead vocal, Furlong submitted the song to Pournouri, Avicii's Grammy nominated manager/production partner in Stockholm. Pournouri says that the song had that sense of euphoria, which characterizes so much of Avicii's music. "It made absolute sense to work on it with RAS," he says, "to make it more 'us' and that's what I did. Then I presented it to Tim and sat with him to finish the production and music."
Earlier this week, Shazam named
Avicii the most shazamed artist of all time, and Spotify named him a Top 5 Male Artist of 2014.
