Chris Thile Announces A Prairie Home Companion's Fall Touring Schedule
New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Chris Thile announced that his second season as host of A Prairie Home Companion will kick off in St. Paul, Minnesota at the Palace Theatre on Saturday, October 7, followed by two additional broadcasts in the show's home at the famed Fitzgerald Theater.

The season opener at the Palace Theatre will be part of a weekend Block Party celebration for Minnesota Public Radio's 50th Anniversary - which will include live music, food trucks, art activities and more. Details will be announced by MPR in early September. Visit mpr50.org for updates and to plan your weekend visit.

October 14 and 21, the show returns to its home base, the Fitzgerald Theater, before heading west to the Golden State of California for broadcasts in Pasadena, on October 28, and then down to sunny San Diego on November 4th. The show will wrap up 2017 with 3 live broadcasts from The Town Hall off of Times Square in New York City on December 2, 9, and 16.

Details for the next leg of the famed radio show's 26-show season will be released in the coming months.

Once again the maestro of the mandolin, Chris Thile will be joined for a bit of comedy and humor by the The Royal Academy of Radio Actors—Tim Russell, Serena Brook, and sound effects man, Fred Newman—and Rich Dworsky and the hardest working band in public radio today!

Each broadcast will feature a wide array of musicians, some you know, and others you'll soon be hearing about, as well as poets, comics and storytellers. Popular features and fan favorites from the first season, including musicians and composers birthdays as well as the live Powdermilk Instant Song Request will be back, and Chris will also compose and perform a unique new song for each live broadcast.

Chris Thile was hand selected by Garrison Keillor to take over as host of the famed and long-running live radio variety show in the fall of 2016. Chris—a multiple Grammy Award-winner and MacArthur Fellow and a member of Punch Brothers and Nickel Creek—is a mandolin virtuoso, composer and vocalist. With his broad outlook that encompasses classical, rock, jazz, and bluegrass, Thile transcends the borders of conventionally circumscribed genres, creating a distinctly American canon and a new musical aesthetic for performers and audiences alike. As a soloist Thile has released five albums, including his most recent released in 2013, Bach: Partitas and Sonatas, Vol. 1, which was produced by renowned bassist Edgar Meyer. In February 2013 Thile won a Grammy for his work on The Goat Rodeo Sessions, collaborating with Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer and Stuart Duncan. Then, in September 2014, Thile and Meyer released their latest album collaboration, Bass + Mandolin, which won the Grammy for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album. Punch Brothers released their latest album, The Phosphorescent Blues, in 2015. Chris' latest collaborations include an album with Brad Mehldau and Bach Trios with Yo-Yo Ma and Edgar Meyer.
A Prairie Home Companion is produced by American Public Media.
