New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Sam Shepherd aka Floating Points' new album Crush will be released on 18 October on
Ninja Tune. Ahead of the album's release Shepherd has today shared the video for recent single "Anasickmodular." With the single capturing the instantaneous spirit of Shepherd's live performances, the video takes it one further and offers a preview of his new live show. The awe-inspiring visuals respond and mutate as Shepherd crafts the music on stage with his dazzling array of synths and machines to create a light show perfectly in tune with music.
Today Floating Points has also revealed his first live U.S. tour dates in over two years including two shows at
National Sawdust in Brooklyn. A full U.S. tour will be announced soon.
Hamill Industries, the team behind the visuals, tell us more:
"This music video dives us into behind the scenes of the making of Floating Points live show, showing the machinery involved in creating the audio-reactive visuals. These are created using audio signals from a Buchla system into a modified Vectrex screen, a game console from the 80s."
"Floating Points show is based on the visualization of sound through manipulation of analogic technologies. It will combine light, cameras, and visuals triggered by soundwaves, that in turn modulate themselves, creating loops of image and sound working in perpetual feedback, harmony, and dissonance."
As is typical of his career so far, Floating Points' first album in four years, Crush, twists whatever you think you know about him on its head again. A tempestuous blast of electronic experimentalism whose title alludes to the pressure-cooker of the current environment we find ourselves in. As a result, Shepherd has made some of his heaviest, most propulsive tracks yet, nodding to the UK bass scene he emerged from in the late 2000s, such as the dystopian low-end bounce of previously shared striking lead single 'LesAlpx' (Pitchfork's 'Best New Track'), but there are also some of his most expressive songs on Crush: his signature melancholia is there in the album's sublime mellower moments or in the Buchla synthesizer, whose eerie modulation haunts the album.
Floating Points will debut his brand new live show around
Europe in November with dates including a show at London's Printworks. The shows will include performances of songs from Crush as well as tracks from his back catalogue that he'll be playing live for the very first time.
