NEW YORK (Top40 Charts/ By Tiffany Shipp/ Sunshine, Sachs & Associates) - Singer/songwriter
Brett Dennen was joined by his friend, actress and recording artist
Mandy Moore who appears in the video for Brett's newest single, "Make You Crazy," with Afro-beat legend Femi Kuti.
The video was directed by Jay
Martin (Death Cab For Cutie, Dashboard Confessional, Cold War Kids) and is expected to debut around the release of Brett's forthcoming album, Hope For The Hopeless on 10/21 on Dualtone/Downtown Records.
Shot in Los Angeles on September 29th, Brett and Mandy act out a tongue-in-cheek story of how even a ridiculous trend can catch on but ultimately, happiness comes from being true to yourself. This free-spirited, guitar-playing songwriter, known for his trademark barefoot performances, fits that description to a tee.
In the video, Brett is a clerk in a sleepy shoe-store with a grouchy boss. As he waits on customers, a striking and sophisticated lady tries on pair after pair of shoes, only to decide she wants what BRETT is wearing - which is nothing at all. As Brett's shoelessness catches on as an anti-craze, people free themselves of their restraints and strip down to celebrate what life is really all about. "Make You Crazy," is the first single from Brett's upcoming album - the third-most added song on tastemaker stations across the country last week behind Ryan Adams and The Killers. It's a deceptively infectious tune with a relevant "state of the world" message as we near this year's election.
On Nov. 3, Brett will begin a "mini-tour" of the smaller venues where he got his start and a larger, headlining tour will begin in January '09.
Raised in N. California, the former camp counselor is a late-comer to the scene who only decided five years ago to pursue a career in music. With his long red hair, bandana, bare feet and guitar held high on his 6' 4" frame, Brett Dennen is an unlikely front-man, but the 28 year-old radiates confidence and ease in his own skin. Rolling Stone named Dennen one of their "Artists to Watch in 2008." He has been spotlighted by Entertainment Weekly, USA Today, the Washington Post, NPR and has performed on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel Live and Last Call with Carson Daly.
