"I am so happy to use the last leg of my tour to help bring the benefits of music education to more children," said Melissa Etheridge. "Each year the VH1 Save The
Music Foundation continues to inspire children and help them grow in all aspects of life. I am so pleased to be a part of their cause."
Throughout VH1 Save the Music's inception Melissa Etheridge has continued to support The Foundation and the restoration of music education programs. In fact, her U.S. tour in 1999 raised $110,000 for VH1 Save The Music. This past April, Melissa paid a visit to her hometown of Leavenworth, KS to help the VH1 Save The Music Foundation restore music education programs in two Leavenworth public schools. Etheridge spoke with 4th and 5th grade music students of the Earl M. Lawson elementary school about the importance of music education. While there Melissa also acoustically performed "Come to My Window."
Both Earl M. Lawson and the Anthony School received grants of $25,000 worth of new musical instruments - a combined gift from VH1 Save The Music and the Leavenworth Public Schools Education Foundation.
Since VH1 Save The Music was created in 1997, more than $25 million worth of musical instruments has been donated to 1,000 public schools in 80 cities, improving the lives of more than 500,000 children. VH1 Save The Music's many honors include the Governors' Award (a special Emmy Award), the George Foster Peabody Award for broadcast and cable excellence, and many Beacon Awards.
