(Launch) - Filmmaker Kevin Smith was on hand with cameras and staff at last month's "Prince: A Celebration" to shoot the event for a forthcoming documentary on Prince's week-long concert festival. Prince became a fan of Smith after seeing "Dogma," the director's 1999 film that deals the role of religion in today's society. Having full faith in the young director, Prince invited Smith to the festival to capture the essence of what it was all about. "Prince: A Celebration" featured performances by Erykah Badu, Common, the Time, Alicia Keys and George Clinton. The celebration also served as an album release party for Prince's "The Rainbow Children," which is only available online at npgmusicclub.com. Smith will wrap up post-production on his upcoming film "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back," due out Aug. 24, before settling down to complete the Prince documentary.
