New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Sam Fender is pleased to share his first new music of 2019, with the new single "Hypersonic Missiles," released yesterday via Polydor Records/Universal Music. A frenetic 2018 has quickly doubled pace this year for Tyneside's new favourite son. With the BRITs Critics' Choice award in hand, and the finishing touches being made to a debut album recorded up in his own warehouse studio alongside the River Tyne, Sam Fender ups the stakes once more with the sky-scraping "Hypersonic Missiles."

It's a song that steers close to Sam's oeuvre for impassioned observations about the state of the world around us, commenting on apathy in the face of self-destruction. Whilst we all see the frightening daily political mismanagement being played out across the globe, most of us remain helpless and confused to our own plight, watching quietly for what comes next. It's a message assuredly delivered with Sam's colossal rasp, and typically wrapped in melody atop of melody. A big voice, and a huge next step for this super smart 24-year-old from North Shields.

Sam Fender explains: "This song started out when I saw the term 'Hypersonic Missiles' in a newspaper. It's a newly developed Russian missile that travels at something like nine times the speed of sound, which is essentially unstoppable. America currently has no defence against such a weapon, they would be helpless in the wake of an attack, as you have roughly six minutes from the time it is launched to the time it strikes.
"In many ways, Hypersonic Missiles is an unorthodox love song. Its main focus is on the world around the narrator, who is a complete tin foil hatter. They are convinced the world is on its last legs; they know that it is rife with injustice but feel completely helpless and lacking the necessary intelligence to change it while remaining hopelessly addicted to the fruits of consumerism.
"Amongst all the chaos is love and celebration, there is this glimmer of hope that runs through the song, a little notion that no matter what happens, these two people are gonna have a fucking good time regardless of the tyrants that run their world, and regardless of the imminent doom from these 'Hypersonic Missiles'.

Later this month, Sam makes his first moves into the US with a series of gigs at SXSW in Texas, alongside his debut shows in New York, LA, and Toronto. With the New York date selling out instantly, and a deal over there freshly inked, there's already much clamour and anticipation to see the UK's hottest new artist over the pond.

Back in the UK, Sam's been selling out each and every show he plays. With two nights at Shepherd's Bush Empire long since sold out in May on a long since sold out tour, Sam recently put a very special hometown date at Tynemouth Castle on sale for the Summer, with 4000 tickets selling out within an hour. A hectic summer schedule of festivals surely awaits, before a debut album is due to drop soon after through Polydor Records. Further details of that to be announced imminently.
Following the whirlwind successes for his recent singles Dead Boys and Play God, Hypersonic Missiles is arguably Sam Fender's most important, and most undeniable track yet. A big statement song, by a bold new voice.
