NEW YORK (Top40 Charts) - Rockers are getting revved up with some speed-themed songs for a new NASCAR compilation, which is tentatively due on May 21 on MCA Records in conjunction with NASCAR and Fox Sports.
Staind, Rob Zombie, Slipknot, Fear Factory, Tantric, Buckcherry, Les Claypool, Nonpoint, Fenix*TX, and Darwin's Waiting Room are among the artists expected on the album, but get a load of whom some of these acts will be covering.
Buckcherry is taking a stab at Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again," Fenix*TX has laid down Billy Ocean's "Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car," Darwin's Waiting Room has retooled Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car," and Claypool has put Commander Cody's "Hot Rod Lincoln" through the ringer.
Other titles confirmed include new songs from Tantric ("Cross the Line") and Nonpoint ("Circles"), Fear Factory's cover of Gary Numan's "Cars," a remix of a previously released Slipknot song by a not-yet-announced remixer, and Staind's "See Thru."
Also expected on the album, though the deals are not 100 percent done, are Static-X's cover of Elvis Presley's "Speedway," Slayer's cover of Steppenwolf's "Born to be Wild," and a Chris Vrenna, a.k.a. Tweaker, remix of Rob Zombie's "Demon Speeding" from Zombie's Sinister Urge.
"We might be covering an Elvis song, 'Speedway,'" Static-X guitarist Tripp Eisen tells allstar. "It's all race car-themed songs. So if a band has an original song that fits that theme or [they can] do a cover."
More artists are expected to sign off on the project in the coming days, according to a spokesperson at MCA Records. Music from the album will be broadcast during races in the forthcoming NASCAR season.
