NASHVILLE, TN. (Top40 Charts/ Muzak Heart) - The Muzak Heart and Soul Foundation hosted "Battle of the Bands" this past Saturday night at Rocketown in Nashville, TN. Eight high school bands from the state of Tennessee competed for a chance to win a prize package which includes studio time at the Castle Recording Studio with a professional sound engineer, 200 demo CDs, goodies from Sam Ash music retail store and other prizes that will help them launch their budding music careers.

Judges, Curt Casassa (Television Director), Craig Campbell (President Campbell Entertainment Group), Mark Mason (Sr. Dir. Writer/Publisher Relations- BMI), Suzanne Wyatt (Former Session singer and Dir. Of PMC Hearing Health Division) and Shawn Moseley (Muzak) awarded the young band Sterling Heights from Clarksville, TN first place! Sponsors included Muzak, WBUZ 102.9 The Buzz, WPRT 102.5 The Party, Sam Ash Music Stores, Online Gigs, Sonicbids, and Bojangles
Rising from the garages of Clarksville, Tennessee, Sterling Heights members, R.J. Taylor (Rhythm Guitar/Lead Vocals), Joe Oakley (Lead Guitar), Logan Klem (Bass Guitar/Vocals) and Monte Lafferty (Drums) busted down the doors of the pop rock scene in 2008 with their debut album, The First Step. The band was looking forward to their performance on Saturday but the Monday before the Muzak Heart and Soul Foundation "Battle of the Bands" lead singer RJ Taylor was in a very serious car accident. Taylor was hospitalized for 24 hours for surgeons to repair his bottom lip which had been severed. Luckily he was feeling better and able to perform Saturday night and even delivered some award winning vocals in the competition. The band's latest project, Once Upon a Swing Set is set to be released this April.

Second place was awarded to Best from Nashville, TN and False Faded, from Sparta, TN took home third place honors.
