New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The Revolution, the band
Prince himself formed, will perform its award-winning music at the SugarHouse Casino Event Center on Friday, March 9, at 9 p.m. Tickets for the show will be available for purchase online beginning Dec. 8, starting at $49.
The Revolution, consisting of Wendy Melvoin, Lisa Coleman,
Bobby Z, BrownMark and Dr. Fink, is legendary for its powerful live shows, merging funk, rock 'n' roll, rhythm and blues, pop and psychedelic genres. The band rose to international fame in the mid-1980s with its certified platinum album, "
Purple Rain" by
Prince and The Revolution, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Album chart in 1984 and selling more than 13 million copies.
The Revolution was credited on three
Prince studio albums — "Purple Rain," "Around the World in a Day" and "
Parade" — while some members also played on "1999," "Controversy," "Dirty Mind" and "Sign o' the Times." Together, they earned multiple No. 1 hits, as well as two Grammy® Awards, three American
Music Awards and an Oscar for the song "
Purple Rain" as Best Original Song Score in 1985.
"Prince fans will love to hear the band behind the iconic 'Purple Rain,
Prince and The Revolution' album," said Wendy Hamilton, general manager of SugarHouse Casino. "The Revolution puts on a fantastic show, and we only want to see all of you laughing — and dancing — in the purple rain!"
Upon the sudden and tragic passing of
Prince in April 2016, the band reunited again to honor the musical genius who inspired its success. In November 2016, "
Purple Rain" by
Prince and The Revolution won Best
Soundtrack of the Year at the American
Music Awards, 32 years after its initial release, proving it to be an enduring classic album.
Tickets for The Revolution's show, and for all SugarHouse performances, including
Michael Bolton (Dec. 15), The
O'Jays (Jan. 27) and Chris Tucker (Feb. 10), can be purchased on the SugarHouse Casino headliner events page.
In addition to live performances and concerts, the SugarHouse Casino Event Center can be reserved for a variety of occasions, including weddings, corporate receptions, seminars, trade shows and more. The space features floor-to-ceiling windows and panoramic views of the Delaware River waterfront and the Ben
Franklin Bridge. Parking is always free.
