SANTA MONICA, CA. (UMe Records) - "This Christmas, Dillard's
Brings You...Broadway," a special compilation CD of 12 of Broadway's greatest songs, performed by many of its greatest stars, has been created, developed and manufactured by Universal
Music Special Markets exclusively for Dillard Department Stores. Available for purchase exclusively at Dillard's stores nationwide through the holidays, "This Christmas, Dillard's
Brings You...Broadway" benefits the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Said Kathy Hale, Sr. VP, Universal Music Special Markets: "This project continues our terrific relationship with Dillard Department Stores. Last year's 'Sing A Song Of Christmas' was all about country music. This year, we've mined Universal Music Group's unparalleled repertoire of Broadway hits to help Dillard's and its customers contribute to Ronald McDonald House."
"This Christmas, Dillard's Brings You...Broadway" ranges from such vintage classics as Richard Kiley singing "The Impossible Dream" (from "Man Of La Mancha") and the Ethel Merman tour de force "There's No Business Like Show Business" (from "Annie Get Your Gun") to Alfred Drake's glorious performance of "Oh What A Beautiful Morning" (from "Oklahoma"), John Raitt and Jan Clayton's duet "If I Loved You" (from "Carousel") and Yul Brynner's inimitable "Shall We Dance?" (from "The King And I"). A contemporary artist, Keith Hampshire, takes center stage with a more recent "Consider Yourself" (from "Oliver!") and the 1994 Original Broadway Cast of the revival of "Damn Yankees" stops the show with "Whatever Lola Wants (Lola Gets)."
Also featured are newer classics culled from the 1970s to the almost-millennium. Those include the Original Cast Recording of "Mamma Mia!" (from the ABBA-inspired show of the same name), Patti LuPone's "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" (from "Evita"), Yvonne Elliman's "I Don't Know How To Love Him" (from the Original Broadway Cast Recording of "Jesus Christ Superstar"), Mandy Barnett's rendition of "Crazy" (from the Original Nashville Cast Recording of "Always...Patsy Cline") and "Hard Candy Christmas" (from the Original Broadway Cast Recording of "Best Little Whorehouse In Texas").
Dillard Department Stores has 329 stores throughout the United States--helps the Ronald McDonald House program raise money each year through holiday promotions. Since 1994, Dillard's stores in this effort have sold special music CDs and cassettes, and nearly $3.6 million has been raised for the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
