New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ Workmen's Circle) - The top free Jewish music series in New York, Music For A Better World, will once again take to the open air next month. This 'only in New York' series includes events from Westchester and Queens to Manhattan; concerts range from classic Yiddish to the series' highlight, the August 3rd Music For a Better World Concert in Lincoln Center's Damrosch Park offering a blending of Woody Guthrie and Klezmer in an offbeat performance by the Klezmatics.

The Music for a Better World concert features the Klezmatics performing from their album Wonder Wheel, evocative songs set to the lost lyrics of Woody Guthrie and filled with a lively fusion of sounds from Eastern European, Klezmer, Latin, and Afro-Caribbean traditions.

NPR's David Dye of National Public Radio's World Cafe described Wonder Wheel as 'a fitting tribute to the legend and [Woody Guthrie's] timeless songwriting. At the same time, Wonder Wheel functions as a celebration of The Klezmatics, whose members, even after 20 years, continue to explore new territory with the usual Klezmatic spirit.' Guthrie's socially charged lyrics, written during the Great Depression and the tragedy of the Dust Bowl resound for a wide range of progressive audiences today.

A Besere Velt ('better world') Chorus of the Boston Workmen's Circle will perform soul-stirring Yiddish music under the stars, as will Adrienne Cooper, Michael Winograd & Friends, and The Boston Workmen's Circle A Besere Velt Community Chorus.

The free concert begins at 7 pm at Damrosch Park, Lincoln Center, 62nd Street and Amsterdam Avenue. For free reservations, visit https://tinyurl.com/klezmatics or https://www.circle.org. The ticket sites also include a free raffle for a chance to win gift certificates and Yiddish classes.
