New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The singer-songwriter, who recently released her sophomore folk album 7 Year Itch, has a role in the upcoming feature film on the life of the late Irish traditional singer Joe Heaney titled Song Of Granite.
Laramie, Wyoming native (now Montreal-based) singer, songwriter Jaren Cerf, who recently released her sophomore album 7 Year Itch, has a role in the upcoming feature film on the life of the late Irish traditional singer Joe Heaney titled Song of Granite. Filming of this co-production between Ireland's ROADS Entertainment and Quebec's Amerique Film, which recently wrapped in Heaney's native Connemara on the west coast of Ireland, continued in Montreal this month. Jaren plays Rosie, an American devotee of Heaney's who becomes a close friend dedicated to preserving his song legacy.
"The fact that I get to be part of the telling of Joe Heaney's life story is magic to me," says Jaren. "I remember watching films as a kid and crying because I wanted so badly to try acting, but it was just too scary. Then I had kids and my daughter, bless her, changed the game. She really loves to act and so I pursued it, really, because of her."
Jaren's current album 7 Year Itch, the follow-up to her 2008 debut "folk" album Fixin' It Upright, which had been recorded in Sweden, was produced in Montreal by Sebastien Lefebvre, guitarist/vocalist with internationally-renowned "pop punk" band
Simple Plan, and Swedish musician/composer Rickard Nilsson. The album, which has become the soundtrack and the centrepiece for a broader multimedia project which includes her first book titled Bravura: When Motherhood, Career and Celebrity Collide, comprises an extremely personal set of songs informed by Jaren's own voyage of self-discovery after having two children as she dealt with international stardom as a performer and songwriter in the world of Electronic Dance
Music (EDM).
"There aren't many moms in my line of work," says Jaren. "It can get kind of lonesome sometimes. It's tough to find a balance between motherhood and career anyway, let alone a career in an industry that likes their women young and stretch-mark free - so I had to do a lot of reflecting. This album documents that journey."
Jaren recently joined with noted Canadian/English writer, documentary filmmaker, creative entrepreneur and author
Martin Melhuish to establish the Toronto/Montreal-based company, Jarma Matrix, to oversee their creative/business partnership, which is active in various areas of the arts world. https://www.jarmamatrix.com
