Philadelphia, PA (Top40 Charts/ Free People) From March 15th - April 3rd, 2012 five one-of-a-kind Rickenbacker guitars will tour Free People stores in the name of charity. Dubbed FP
Heart Strings, the traveling exhibition brings together two of Free People's core values: art and music. The guitars have been hand decorated by resident Free People artists, each transformed into a one-of-a-kind work of art. As these unique instruments make their way to Free People boutiques in Austin, Nashville, and New York City, they will also be available for auction online at global charity auction house, Charitybuzz.com. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to support
Music For A Cure, a non-profit organization that brings the power of music to children who are critically ill, or faced with mental or emotional challenges.
In support of this project, iconic guitar manufacturer, Rickenbacker, has generously donated 3 guitars, 1 bass, and 1 mandolin, including Rickenbacker models: 650C, 360, 381V69, 4003, and 5002, each with a retail value between $1,800-$5,000. One of the guitars will be sent to Austin, TX where it will be autographed by prominent musicians as it travels with video production company, Yours Truly. The videographers will document the journey for an exclusive video set to be released on March 29th, 2012.
"In addition to fashion, music, art, and giving back are all important to the Free People customer, so we wanted to give her a way to celebrate them together. We are thrilled that Rickenbacker donated these amazing instruments and are very pleased by the collaboration among our partners which will raise money and awareness for
Music For A Cure," said Jed Paulson, Free People's
Director of Marketing. "We hope this is one of many future partnerships that bring together our customer's core values."
The touring
Heart Strings exhibition will kick off at the Free People boutique in downtown Austin, TX on March 15th with a daylong celebration on March 16th, featuring live music from Ava Luna and more. The guitars will then travel to the brand's Nashville boutique where they will stay from March 20-25th. The Nashville store will host an event on March 22nd with Madison Cain and Chelsea Lankes, performing live with special guest Jonathan Cain of the legendary rock band, Journey. The tour will conclude with the grand opening of Free People's
Rockefeller Center boutique on March 30th, where the guitars will be on display through April 2nd.
