NEW YORK (Top40 Charts/ EMI Records) - Ready to reclaim the spotlight, Chicago's Grammy-nominated hip-hop legend is back with a new label and album entitled Category F5.
The Windy City's own Twista-whose memorable chart-topping hits include Slow Jamz featuring Kanye West and Overnight Celebrity-has brought his Get Money Gang Entertainment label to EMI Label Services. The first project under the new partnership is the rapper's sixth studio album, Category F5. Preceding the album's June 16, 2009 release is the buzz track Wetter, available for digital download on Feb. 24. Album GMG Entertainment is headed by Twista's manager Rawle Stewart and Henley Halem, who will act as the liaison between GMG and EMI. "We are very pleased to be in business with EMI and Capitol," says Twista. "I am excited about being independent again but having the resources of a major."
With its smooth chorus and Twista's signature fast pace, Wetter reprises the witty magic of the rapper's 1997 single Get It Wet from his Big Beat/Atlantic Records debut Adrenalin Rush. Wetter is already up and running at WPWX in Chicago, where the song immediately went into power rotation.
Wetter is the perfect way to reintroduce Twista to his fan base, providing a tasty preview of what Category F5 holds in store. The upcoming album not only reunites Twista with Toxic and his original Adrenaline Rush collaborator the Legendary Traxster, but also teams him for the first time with such talented producers as Jim Jonsin, the Tastemakers, STREETRUNNER and GoodWill and MGI. Featured guests include Kanye West, Akon, Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe, Tech N9ne, Static Major and Bobby V, the latter of whom appears on the standout rhythmic crossover track, She Got It.
Rap/hip-hop fans were first introduced to Twista's firecracker speed and sharp wit by way of 1997's Adrenaline Rush. That was followed a year later by Mobstability. But Twista's major league breakthrough occurred in 2004 with Kamikaze. Pushing the album into the platinum sales stratosphere was the No. 1 pop and No. 1 R&B/hip-hop single Slow Jamz featuring Kanye West. Debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, the album has since scanned over 1.87 million units in the U.S.
That same year, Twista scored a second No. 1 on the rap singles chart with Overnight Celebrity. Fourth album The Day After debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart in 2005 and has gone gold, selling 504,000 units in the U.S.
Rounding out Twista's list of hit singles is Girl Tonite featuring Trey Songz. It peaked at No. 2 on the rap singles chart. After the release of Adrenaline Rush 2007, Twista and Atlantic Records agreed to part ways. To date, Twista has scanned over 4 million records.
As he gears up for the release of Category F5, Twista notes, "The hustle never stops. Over the last couple of years, I've just been thinking about what the fans want from me. And that was motivation enough to bring out another classic album."
