NEW YORK (Favored Nations/ J-Disc) - Favored Nations is honored to present the second solo album by revolutionary bass player BILLY SHEEHAN with the release of Cosmic Troubadour on CD February 22, 2005.
Produced by Pat Regan, Cosmic Troubadour again sees Sheehan handling multi-instrumental duties and writing all of the material, as he did on his 2001 debut Compression (Favored Nations). Ray Luzier and
Simone Sello lend a hand on drums and guitars/programming respectively. Cosmic Troubadour shows Sheehan maturing as both a songwriter and vocalist on his sophomore release. The tracks cross a multitude of genres while still remaining true to his hard rock roots.
Beginning with the prog-rock syncopation of "Toss It To The Flame," to the pulsating bass line of the instrumental "The Suspense Is Killing Me" to the closing King Crimsonesque polyrhythm of "A Million
Tears Ago," Sheehan is able to juxtapose elements of funk and blues with a foundation in metal.
Recruited by David Lee Roth when Roth left Van Halen in '85, Sheehan recorded two platinum selling albums with the former Van Halen front man before setting out on his own. He formed Mr. Big in 1989 and achieved a No 1 single in the US and 14 other countries with "To Be With You" from their 2nd Atlantic Records album release Lean Into It. While developing his trademark style of playing he has performed over 4,000 live gigs on every continent except Africa and Antarctica.
Sheehan was voted the "Best Rock Bass Player" 5 times in Guitar Player magazines Readers Poll, and has also had his rock n roll legacy cemented, literally, on the Hollywood Rockwalk at Guitar Center in 1999.
Billy Sheehan will be on the road in March, holding down the groove for his longtime band-mate and now label President Steve Vai. Joining them on the stage will be guitar/keyboard virtuoso Tony MacAlpine, fellow Favored Nations artist David Weiner, and drummer Jeremy Colson.
