Halifax, CA. (Top40 Charts/ www.myspace.com/wintersleepmusic) - The sensational Halifax-based band Wintersleep has been rocking the streets of Canada since its formation in 2003. Comprised of four native Cannucks, Wintersleep was first envisioned when Loel Campbell (drummer) and friend Paul Murphy (vocals) got together in Campbell's downtown Halifax apartment to produce some of Murphy's quieter material that didn't quite fit into the aggressive sound of his band at the time. Pleased with their product, they sought out additional musicians to fill in the gaps. Murphy called up his old pal, and band mate, Tim D'eon (guitars, keyboards) and with Jud Haynes on bass, Wintersleep was born. Halifax has since been conquered.
Now the U.S. will finally be able to get a taste of Wintersleep—the band voted "Best Band in Halifax" for three consecutive years. The bands' self-titled debut, which is actually titled Self-Titled, will be issued for the first time in the U.S. on March 6, 2007. Wintersleep's latest album Untitled, will also be released in the states at that time.
Unlike Wintersleep's first album which was recorded in the seaside town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia in a 100-year-old opera house turned studio, Untitled was produced closer to home with the help of Laurence Currie (Sloan, Holy Fuck). The release was a hit in Canada, earning the band its first Juno Award nomination (the Canadian equivalent of the Grammys) and remained at the top of Canadian campus radio charts for over fourteen weeks. Untitled has earned the group comparisons to praiseworthy acts such as Radiohead, Mogwai, Hayden and Low.
Since the 2003 release of Self-Titled, Wintersleep has toured extensively, sharing the stage with Pearl Jam, Broken Social Scene, Stars, Metric, and K-os. The band has also played the festival circuit, making appearances at The Virgin Festival, Osheaga, and POP Montreal among others. Wintersleep will be touring with The Slip in late February.
