Fort Collins, CO (COMMUNICATIONS STRATEGY GROUP) - Grab your cruiser bike and slip into your alter-ego - New Belgium's philanthropic cycling circus, Tour de Fat, is hitting the road for its sixth season! The roadshow series makes its stop in Missoula on Saturday,
September 2, 2006. The Tour will hit an additional ten cities slated across the West throughout the summer while the entire crew travels on B100 biodiesel fuel.
The Tour de Fat brings together bike enthusiasts and bon vivants of every stripe in an all-out ballyhoo of bikes and beer. Costumes and decorated bikes are the rule as the participants come for a bike parade, good music and entertainment, then stay for the beer.
Amid the hoopla, Tour de Fat also raises money for local charities. The Missoula event is a FUNdraiser for Mountain Bike Missoula and Missoula In Motion. Mountain Bike Missoula is a nonprofit organization supported through memberships, grants, and the annual Tour de Fat fundraiser. They are essentially a mountain biking club, made up of community members that stay involved in local mountain biking issues. Their mission is to promote responsible mountain biking activities in western Montana. Missoula In Motion is a program designed to help local businesses, institutions and individuals address transportation issues within the Missoula community.
Last year, the Missoula Tour de Fat attracted more than 1,500 Fat Tire Fanatics and FUNdraised $4,500 for Mountain Bike Missoula and $500 for Missoula In Motion. Also during last year's event, the organizations helped the Tour divert waste from the event. More than 80% of the total trash from the Tour was kept out of the landfills!
'Tour de Fat is a hair-raising, high-flying, death-defying show of incredible bike silliness and skill,' said Chris Winn, Event Evangelist. 'You come out to the park, hang out with your friends, ride bikes and drink a little beer. At the end of the day, you've done your community some good just by having fun.'
