New York, NY (Top40 Charts) Gabriel Kahane begins his 2019-20 concert season with a performance of songs from his 2018 Nonesuch debut album, Book of Travelers, at Royal Canadian Legion No. 1 in Calgary on Friday night as part of the Honens Festival. The season ahead brings several concerts featuring music from the album, including an evening with string quartet in Seattle and performances of Pattern of the Rail: Six Orchestral Songs from 'Book of Travelers' with Oregon Symphony, of which he was recently named Creative Chair, and Louisville Orchestra. Kahane's currently scheduled season culminates in a triple-bill concert with Caroline Shaw and Attacca Quartet at The Phillips Collection in Washington, DC, on May 3, 2020. See below for details and tickets.
Book of Travelers is a musical travelogue about the looping railway journey across the US Kahane embarked upon the day after the 2016 US election and the people he met along the way. "Exquisitely crafted," says Uncut. "Musically fascinating and hauntingly empathetic." "Extraordinary," says the San Francisco Chronicle; "vivid and wholly original." Rolling Stone calls it a "stunning portrait of a singular moment in America."
