SXSW Presents: Ana Prada (Sounds Of Uruguay) - March 12 At Speakeasy
New York, NY (Top40 Charts/ ER:M+M) The career of Ana Prada, a singer and songwriter from Uruguay, begins in 1994. She and her first cousin, singer/songwriter Daniel Drexler, led the group called "La Caldera" which allows Ana to gradually become a renowned face on Uruguay's music scene.

"...She woke us up with her first record, Soy Sola. She rocked us with the second one, SoyPecadora. Now, she closes the trilogy with "Soy Otra", a wink to the Latin song that crosses borders and, for a while, puts every structure in the freezer and defrosts every nostalgia..." ELLE magazine

Later, in 1998, Ana becomes part of the original line-up of a vocal band called "La Otra" where she joins three other outstanding artists and records two records, "La Otra" (2001) and "Dos" (2005).

Ana's career as a solo artist happened almost by accident at a family gathering. After her cousins Daniel and Jorge Drexler had sung several songs, Ana mustered up the courage to perform her own songs, which aroused the interest of one of the family's guests, the producer Carlos Casacuberta, former member of the group Peyote Asesino. He suggested that she should record her record as a solo artist.

That was how Ana's first album "Soy sola" came about. It earned excellent reviews and was presented at a packed venue.

Tours and international fame would follow soon: Uruguay, Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Denmark and Sweden were seduced by this singer's sweet and persuasive voice. In 2007, she earned a nomination as 'Revelation Artist in Folklore' at the Gardel Awards (Argentina) and as 'Revelation of the Year', 'Best Solo Artist of the Year' and 'Best Production of the Year' at the Graffiti Awards (Uruguay). During that same year, Rolling Stone magazine of Argentina classified "Soy sola" as "Revelation Album."

In 2009, Ana releases "Soy Pecadora", produced by Matias Cella. This album, which introduces Uruguay's folklore combined with pop nuances and subtle electronic undertones, earns the same success and recognition in its reviews as the first one.

That same year, Ana releases a children's record called "Queremos un carril bici" together with a Spanish artist called Queyi. They present their album in a new format: a play box where the record's fourteen songs are accompanied by their respective illustrated stories, origami and cut out dolls.

In 2012, Ana starts to write songs together with the renowned singer/songwriter Teresa Parodi. This leads to a show called "Cosido a mano y a medida" (Hand-sewn and tailored) and to the release of the album "Y qué más" in 2013.

At the beginning of 2013, Ana Prada and the Cuban singer/songwriter Yusa join their talents to create a concert known as "Crema y chocolate" with which they toured over 10 cities in Argentina and Uruguay. The meeting of these two artists intersperses their roots in a very natural way, both share the African legacy that exists in Uruguay and Cuba. This is also reflected in the rhythm of their songs.

"Soy Otra" is the third album by the Uruguayan singer/songwriter Ana Prada; it closes the trilogy of "SOY" ("Soy Sola" 2006 and "Soy Pecadora" 2009) and opens to a new launch in musical composition. "Soy Otra" features the trademark of freshness turned into song that Ana Prada has been giving use ever since her first album.

Make sure to watch her performance at the showcase SOUNDS OF URUGUAY, presented at the
SXSW in Austin, TX, this coming March 12 at the Speakeasy (412 Congress Ave).
