A community of over 13,000 NEC alumni live and perform in more than 40 countries throughout the world, and we are proud to share their stories and successes.
Our alumni are soloists, chamber musicians, entrepreneurs, and members of classical, jazz, and commercial ensembles of all shapes and sizes. They hold teaching posts at colleges and conservatories, own record labels, serve as managers with leading arts organizations, and compose and produce for the television, film, and radio industries. In short, they’re everywhere – and they’re paving the way for a bright musical future.
Here, we put a few of our alumni Center Stage and take an in-depth look at their paths beyond NEC.
Sean Callery ’88 is the composer of the Emmy winning Showtime Series "Homeland," the CBS hit series "Elementary," and the long-running Fox series "Bones," now in its 11th season. He recently completed composing the music for the Marvel series "Jessica Jones," which premiered on Netflix November 20.
With 14 Emmy nominations and three wins under his belt, he recently finished composing for the fifth season of "Homeland," which premiered in the fall of 2015. Known mostly for his suspense-driven scores on Fox’s hit series “24,†Callery received numerous Emmy nods throughout the course of the show's eight seasons, including three Emmy Award wins for “Outstanding Music Composition.†In early 2014, Callery revisited the "24" franchise when he composed the score for the 12-episode miniseries starring Kiefer Sutherland reprising his famous role as Jack Bauer.
Callery composed the score for the film "Small Time," starring Christopher Meloni and Dean Norris. He has received an Emmy nomination for Reelz Channel’s “The Kennedys.†Other projects include: CBS’s "Medium" and Fox’s "Bones,†USA network series "La Femme Nikita,†the 2011 Tibetan film documentary "Crazy Wisdom: The Life and Times of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche,†and the video game "James Bond: Everything or Nothing," released by EA.
ABOUT NEW ENGLAND CONSERVATORY
A cultural icon that will mark its 150th anniversary in 2017, New England Conservatory (NEC) is recognized worldwide as a leader among music schools. Located in Boston, Massachusetts, NEC offers rigorous training in an intimate, nurturing community to undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate music students from around the world. Its faculty of 225 boasts internationally esteemed artist-teachers and scholars. NEC alumni go on to fill orchestra chairs, concert hall stages, jazz clubs, recording studios, and arts management positions worldwide. Half of the Boston Symphony Orchestra is composed of NEC-trained musicians and faculty.
The only conservatory in the United States designated a National Historic Landmark, NEC presents more than 1000 free concerts each year. Many of these take place in Jordan Hall (which shares National Historic Landmark status with the school), world-renowned for its superb acoustics and beautifully restored interior.
