Prince George Sustainable Street Banners |
It started with Doug Hofstede, a Recreation Coordinator with the City of Prince George, who thought that used street banners might be recycled and get a second life as useful articles to support local social agencies. Patrick Pocha from the Prince George Métis Community Association jumped at the opportunity and approached staff at the Prince George Regional Correctional Centre who agreed to launder the banners and have inmates sew them into aprons and bags. These items are now available for sale for $5 each (5 for $20) to raise money for the Metis After Hours Drop In Centre. The articles are for sale at the BladeRunners office (1074 -- 6th Ave), Sassafras Savories (693 Brunswick) or Gramma's Kitchen (901 West Central).
