"I Am" was written by Ella Hooper, Jesse Hooper, Warren Jenkin and Adam Pedretti, and produced by John Travis for Killing Heidi's third album Killing Heidi (2004). It became the band's fifth top twenty single in Australia, peaking at number sixteen and also was featured on the Australia/New Zealand soundtrack of the 2004 film Spider-Man 2. "I Am" became an instant hit upon its release in July 2004, debuting at #16 on the official ARIA Charts and remaining in the top 50 for almost three months, eventually selling over 35,000 copies and achieving Gold status.
