New York, NY. (John Lennon Awards Website) - The $20,000 Maxell Song of the Year Prize Will Be Presented by 3-time Grammy Winner Fergie on June 21 in New York during the 'Fergie Verizon Mobile VIP Tour'

The Grand Prize Winners from Session I and II of the year-round John Lennon Songwriting Contest competed in an online voting battle to determine the Lennon Award Winner in each of 12 musical categories, who will go on to compete for the annual Maxell Song of the Year's $20,000 prize.

The Lennon Award Winners are Harlot (Toronto, Canada) for their song 'Maybe' in the Rock category; Michael McGee (a Finalist in 2006 in the country category) and Rolf Schnyder (Lock Haven, PA) for their Country entry 'Beyond Words'; Stacy Jagger (Spring Hill, TN) for her Jazz composition 'The Man I Love'; in the Pop category, Outsider (Lancashire, UK) were recognized for 'Understanding'; SINEM (New York, NY) won in the World category for her composition 'Boom Sheke Nana'; the Rhythm & Blues winner is Rob Murat (New York, NY) for his song 'Souls'; the Hip Hop song that won in that category is 'You Know the Type' by Toney Jackson (Hackensack, NJ); Carmen Calhoun (Washington, DC) took the Gospel/Inspirational category with her song 'Broken and Blessed'; Gaby Moreno, Ari Shine and Victor Indrizzo (Guatemala City, Guatemala) co-wrote the winning Latin composition 'Escondidos'; the winner in the Electronic category is The Specimen (Brooklyn, NY) for 'Do U Damage'; Chris Ayer (McLean, VA) is the Folk winner for 'Evaporate'; and the winner in the Children's category is Kristin Andreassen (Watertown, MA) for her song 'Crayola Doesn't Make A Color For Your Eyes'.

In addition to their prizes as Grand Prize Winners in their respective sessions, which included $5,000 in Project Studio Equipment from Roland/Edirol, Audio-Technica, Propellerhead, Ableton and Sibelius, as well as a $500 gift certificate from MusiciansFriend.com and an Apple iPod Shuffle, the 12 Lennon Award Winners receive 1,000 custom CDs of their music printed in full color 6 panel digipaks courtesy of Disc Makers, valued at $1990, as well as a $5,000 advance from EMI Music Publishing.

The JLSC's 10th Maxell Song of the Year will be selected from the 12 Lennon Award Winners by the stellar JLSC Executive Committee which includes Elton John, Carlos Santana, Enrique Iglesias, Tim McGraw, Black Eyed Peas, Carol Bayer Sager, Dave Koz, and other renowned performers and songwriters.

The $20,000 check from the Maxell Corporation will be presented at New York's Roseland by multi-platinum, 3-time Grammy Award winning recording artist Fergie on June 21 during her 'Fergie Verizon VIP Tour.' The evening will also be a celebration of the world renowned Lennon Contest's first decade.
