SANTA MONICA (Geffen Records) - After selling 300,000 copies of their 2002 debut drive-thru CD "Say It Like You Mean It," the Starting Line got what every band needs most: fans. Lots of 'em all over the country. Now, the Pennsylvania-based quartet is about to treat one of those fans to a night he or she will never forget, thanks to a truly special on-line contest.

Music websites Purevolume and Smartpunk are sponsoring a contest to fly one lucky fan and a friend to a Starting Line show on their upcoming tour with Yellowcard. The winner will receives airfare, hotel, concert tickets and, best of all a chance to sit down with the band and have them play tracks from their upcoming Tim O'Heir-produced full-length CD, due early next year.

The Starting Line's Ken Vasoli said about the contest, "I want to say thank you to our fans for staying interested in our band. We're excited to be able to share a few new songs with them. And it will be super cool to play the new album for a fan in person, too."

Fans visiting the URL https://www.purevolume.com/thestartingline can register for the contest as well as listen to new music from The Starting Line. Two new songs from 'Based on a True Story' the band's upcoming release can be streamed in their rough, fresh-from-the-studio form. The tracks available are 'Surprise Surprise' and 'Bedroom Talk'. Fans that catch the Yellowcard dates can get a free CD of these tracks at The Starting Line's merchandise both. The full CD will be available in 2005.

PureVolume.com's announced the number of streams on the first day was 30,024. Jennifer Welch, PureVolume co-founder says, "I am very excited for The Starting Line with the success of their contest and the online release of two new songs from their forthcoming album. They reached over 30,000 plays in one day, nearly 10,000 more plays than any other artist in PureVolume's history."
The starting line-up of the Starting Line is Ken Vasoli on vocals and bass, Tom Gryskiewicz on drums, and Matt Watts and Mike Golla on guitars. They made their recording debut with the five-song EP "With Hopes of Starting Over" from 2001, followed by "Say It Like You Mean It." Last year, the band released another EP, "Make Yourself At Home."
