A dilapidated shack near Blacksburg, Virginia was the location of The Shack Band's genesis back in 2010. After several line-up changes and a move to Richmond, the band got down to business, writing songs, honing their art....and plenty of performing. Over 250 shows up and down the East Coast with an added foray to the Midwest firmly established The Shack Band as a very hot live act, noted for high energy performances. With influences ranging from
Dave Matthews and
Phish to Muddy Waters and Bob Marley, The Shack Band's music brims with life, fueled by the passions and talents of the members. "The driving force behind our making music is to produce something that I will be proud to share in forty years and something that people will still feel connected to years down the line," notes saxophonist Josh Crowley
The Shack Band lineup is comprised of Andrew Gillespie on keyboards and vocals; Hunter Pease on guitar, harmonica and lead vocals; Josh Crowley on sax and flute;
Mason Owen on bass and vocals; and
Bobby Hudson on drums. Their first recording was the EP "Born And Raised," with a sold-out CD release party in Richmond. Now two years later, The Shack Band is primed to release the full length CD "
America" recorded at the famous Engine Room Audio studio in New York City. Dan Millice, frontman and lead guitarist for the band Hollapenos, was recording engineer and co-producer for "America." Additional recording was completed at the Richmond-based Red Amp Audio.
The Shack Band are currently touring to support the release of "America." Their previous travels have taken them to some of the most prestigious clubs in cities throughout the eastern half of the U.S.A. from New York City, to
Chicago to Athens, GA, as well as renowned festivals including Floydfest, Domefest, and the Pink Moon Festival. They have also shared the stage with national acts including Moon Taxi, Perpetual Groove, The Machine, and Dangermuffin, among others.
