Black Eyed Peas, Apl, Divine Styler, King Britt 'Awaken' To 5.1 Surround Sound

LOS ANGELES (Top40 Charts) - Black Eyed Peas member Apl, Divine Styler, King Britt featuring Rob Life, Rabbit In The Moon, and other respected members of the electronic music world have taken part in Awaken, the genre's first 5.1 DVD surround-sound effort. The project, a 12-track combination CD and DVD, is scheduled to be released November 6 on Electromatrix Records.

Awaken co-producer Peter Torres says each of the artists featured on the disc were hand-picked. "There was a lot of interest in the project," he explains. "We could have featured higher-profile names, but we wanted artists who could best use this technology. It's not easy--just because an artist is successful in an old format, it doesn't mean that they will be successful in the new. Like when movies first had sound, Hollywood changed because the new technology demanded a new breed of artist."

When placed in DVD players, users will be able to access multi-format video and audio clips, and interviews. Hip-hop producer Dr. Dre is also planning to record his next album, Detox, in 5.1 surround sound.
