The Steep Canyon Rangers Celebrate IBMA Awards Nomination For Instrumental Recorded Performance Of The Year For "Graveyard Fields"
NASHVILLE, TN. (Top40 Charts/ Lotos Nile) Nominees for the 2014 International Bluegrass Music Awards were announced yesterday at a press conference at The Factory at Franklin and the Steep Canyon Rangers have been honored with a nomination for the 2014 Instrumental Recorded Performance of the Year for "Graveyard Fields," off their latest album Tell The Ones I Love. Known as bluegrass music's biggest night of the year, the International Bluegrass Music Awards acknowledges the year's outstanding talent and achievements, honors new Hall of Fame inductees, and waves the worldwide flag for bluegrass music.

Heralding a new era of bluegrass with both their artistic contributions and the unwavering dedication that they invest into every performance and recording, the 2011 IBMA Entertainers of the Year have previously been awarded with IBMA's Emerging Artist of the Year in 2006 and Best Album Artwork in 2012 for their GRAMMY Award-winning bluegrass album, Nobody Knows You.

"Graveyard Fields" written by Mike Guggino and produced by Larry Campbell (Bob Dylan, Levon Helm) was recorded at the famed Levon Helms Studio in Woodstock, NY last fall. The band wanted Tell The Ones I Love to reflect the spirit of their live concerts—an original, freewheeling, high-energy approach to bluegrass so they recorded the album almost entirely live, using few overdubs. Guggino's instrumental "Graveyard Fields" is a bluegrass tour de force. Guggino says, "I'm honored to have 'Graveyard Fields' nominated alongside songs written by so many of my bluegrass heroes. Since my early years as a mandolin player I've always been inspired to write instrumental music. I'm grateful to my bandmates for helping make these songs come to life!"

The Steep Canyon Rangers - Woody Platt (lead singer/guitar), Mike Guggino (mandolin), Charles Humphrey III (bass), Nicky Sanders (fiddle), Graham Sharp (banjo), and Mike Ashworth (percussion) - will also be performing at the Wide Open Bluegrass Festival on Oct. 3 following the 25th annual International Bluegrass Music Awards on Oct. 2 in Raleigh, NC.

Formed a decade ago during their college days at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the Steep Canyon Rangers ongoing commitment to roots music has only deepened with time. Their recordings and performances are marked by fierce instrumental prowess, soaring harmonies and deeply moving original songwriting and harmonies, which infuse traditional bluegrass with a uniquely contemporary perspective. They continue to perform bluegrass to a larger audience than any other group in the genre, introducing more and more listeners to roots music instrumentation and the rich history of bluegrass, thanks in part to their collaboration with entertainment icon, Steve Martin.

Winners will be announced during the 25th Annual IBMA Awards, hosted by renowned artists Lee Ann Womack and Jerry Douglas, on Oct. 2, 2014 at the Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts in Raleigh, NC. For more information on the Steep Canyon Rangers, visit: https://www.steepcanyon.com/.
