New York, NY (Top40 Charts) The Devil In I is a single for American heavy metal band Slipknot's fifth album, .5: The Gray Chapter. It is the second single for the album and the first to be released to radio and music channels, with the previous single The Negative One being a digital only single. it was believed that the video would finally reveal the identity of the band's new drummer after the departure of Joey Jordison in 2013, and if Donnie Steele will be continuing bass duties after three years as a touring bassist for the band, after the death of previous bassist Paul Gray in 2010.

In an interview for loudwire, Corey revealed that the Bass player and Drummer will both be on stage and both will wear the same mask as the band feel it would be disrespectful for them to have individual masks at this time. The music video was uploaded to band's YouTube account on September 12, 2014. Though the new bassist and drummer appeared they were masked and no names were given, the identity of the new bassist Alessandro Venturella was revealed by accident due to his signature hand tattoos. This also confirmed Donnie's time returning to Slipknot was over.

Shortly after the reveal of The Negative One another countdown was put up on their official website telling fans to come back on August 11, 2014 at 10am PDT for "A special announcement". The announcement was delayed but eventually revealed the cover art for the new single titled "The Devil In I". This was disappointing for some fans as Corey Taylor had already revealed the title of the single in an interview for BBC Radio 1 on August 4. The cover art was also recycled from previous KnotFest 2012 promotional material.

Plans of a music video for the song were revealed by Corey Taylor during an interview for BBC Radio 1. The band put out a casting call asking for "human maggots" for a video that was shot on August 22 and 23, 2014. They requested people between the ages of 20 and 35 with the condition they be okay with shooting barefoot.

On September 11, 2014 Slipknot uploaded a trailer for The Devil in I music video to be uploaded the next day, the trailer featured 2 people in red shrouds with eye-holes cut speculating that the red shrouds may be the new member's masks. The video was uploaded on September 12 and featured the band members in a mental asylum surrounded by fans covered completely and dancing in straight jackets while the band performed. It also featured the band in their All Hope Is Gone masks committing suicide in various ways such as Corey setting a bomb off while he sat at a table and Mick peeling his own face off. This is perhaps a metaphor for the death of the old Slipknot and the start of a new one. The new drummer and bassist were seen performing with the band. During the video the new drummer and bassist are seen in straightjackets and were in multiple scenes in electric wheelchairs. At one point in the video they are both stabbed to death by the rest of the band, this could be seen as some sort of initiation to the band.
