Former Manager Sues Afroman For Breach Of Contract

NEW YORK (Top40 Charts) - Mo' money, mo' problems -- at least that's what Afroman is probably starting to think.

The Mississippi-bred rapper (real name Joseph Foreman) behind current radio sensation "Because I Got High" has been hit with a breach of contract lawsuit from his former manager, Hey Red (real name Naeema Mansur).

Mansur allegedly entered into an automatically renewable 12-month managerial contract with Afroman in October of 1999 and is accusing the rapper of breaching that contract when he signed with a new manager and Universal Records for his major-label debut, The Good Times . Mansur claims Afroman and Universal Records left her out of the loop when Afroman signed with the label and subsequently began taking over radio with his ode to marijuana.

The suit reads, in part, "Among many other services Hey Red was to perform under the terms of said agreement, Hey Red was obligated to negotiate any and all agreements pertaining to artist's services."

Mansur was left so out of the loop, according to representatives at Zar & Guillory, LLP, that she didn�t even know about Afroman's sudden success until friends heard "Because I Got High" on the radio. As a result, the suit also accuses Universal of "intentionally and maliciously" inducing Afroman to breach his agreement with Mansur.

Mansur is suing Afroman and Universal for breach of contract, tortious interference with contract, intentional interference with prospective economic advantage, negligent interference with prospective economic advantage, unfair competition, and breach of implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing.
